These are Calor Style Tapers, which are a little bit thicker and recessed so you can fit the jewelry inside the taper. This helps prevent slipping while stretching. The Calor Style is extremely difficult to make with a lot of waste. They are therefore often sold with a thick wall, to save on cost.

We go out of our way to source Calor tapers with the thinnest possible wall, so that when you stretch your piercing you are not over stretching and damaging all of your hard work.

These insertion tapers are not intended for long term wear, but to guide your plug into position. The recess in the top of the taper will hold the plug in place whilst you guide the thin end of the taper into your ear through the length of the barrel until your ear is stretched and plug is in position.
